The 12th Man of Christmas
It’s hard to tell what the Baty family likes more — Christmas or the Seattle Seahawks.
So why not celebrate both?
When you do, you get a blue-and-green holiday lighting display that’s surely not coming down before playoffs.
Or, hopefully, the Super Bowl.
“It would be so bad luck if I took it down,” Kirk Baty said.
Kirk and Camilla Baty are the winners of the Quincy Valley Lions Club’s 2014 residential lighting contest. The family lives at 524 G St. N.E.
The unique holiday lighting display started off with a 21-foot Seahawk banner Kirk recycled from a grocery store in Mattawa. Kirk wanted to put the banner in his son’s room. But Camilla had other plans.
“I’m the one who gets the bright ideas,” she said.
Camilla suggested the banner go on the house. And from that emerged a blue-and-green holiday display complete with miniature goal posts and a banner that reads, “Around here we believe.” (There may be some argument whether that message is for Santa Claus or Russell Wilson.)
And the display earned the home top honors this year.
“There are lots of beautifully decorated houses around town this year,” said Marilyn Cordova, a coordinator of the competition. “And the Quincy Valley Lions would like to thank them all for sharing their Christmas joy with the community.”
The community is invited to take a look at the Baty home as well as the honorable mentions: 307 J St. S.E., 605 I St. S.E. 113 A St. N.W. and 721 Hilltop N.E.
And don’t forget 2013 winners Corey and Taran Rosenberger, 20971 Road 11 N.W.
