Jacks beat Ephrata, ready for district meet
Quincy Jacks wrestlers sharpened their skills for this weekend’s district tournament by defeating Ephrata in a dual meet last Thursday, 36-28.
Quincy got the win in the Tigers’ gym. Andy Reynolds had a good match for QHS, pinning Ephrata’s Jared Durfee in the 195-pound class after a competitive match.
Teammates Julian Trejo (126) and Devon Salcedo (138) also posted victories for coach Greg Martinez’s Jacks.
Quincy got a forfeit when Ephrata didn’t enter a weight class, then Tanner Wallace (152), Ray Robinson (160) and Victor Tafoya (170) all registered victories to boost the team score to 27-9.
Rey Rubio got Quincy’s final win of the night by beating Rolo Reyes in a 285-pound showdown.
Not every weight class was contested. The Jacks forfeited in the 220-pound class and Ephrata forfeited at 132.
Martinez noted that both teams are young and it was a good meet for the Jacks as they head into the toughest portion of the season schedule. The Jacks are headed to Ellensburg High School on Friday to begin the District 5/6 2A Wrestling Championships at 4 p.m. Those who qualify with victories that day will advance to Saturday’s round, starting at 11 a.m. Martinez said he hopes to have 10 wrestlers in Saturday’s competition.
The regional 2A tournament is scheduled Feb. 13 at West Valley High School of Spokane. The state meet will be Feb. 19-20 at the Tacoma Dome.
