Accused shooter appears in court
EPHRATA — The man accused of fatally shooting a co-worker and then shooting another appeared in court this week.
Eduardo Ibarra Valencia, 30, of Royal City is being held in the Grant County Jail on $1 million bail. He appeared in Grant County Superior Court on Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Valencia’s arraignment is set for Dec. 8.
Police say Valencia and the two victims were employed by Callahan Manufacturing in Royal City, where the shootings took place.
Valencia apparently arrived at work the morning of Nov. 20 and got into a confrontation with the two victims in the shop area of the metal fabrication business.
Killed was Joel Rodriguez, 49, of Quincy. Rodriguez died at the scene.
Augustin Verduzco Sanchez, 55, of Soap Lake sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was in stable condition at an area hospital.
Valencia apparently drove from the business to his nearby home, where he was arrested without incident a short time later. A 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun was allegedly recovered inside the residence.
