Looking back on a great five years
Five years ago this week, I started working at the Quincy Valley Post-Register.
I was excited about the opportunity to return to work and live in the Quincy Valley, which I have always considered my home.
The excitement continued for me as I began working here and was able to witness the amazing growth that has happened to this area.

Who would have thought that Microsoft, Yahoo and Intuit would come to our community? I sure didn’t when I was growing up here.
Of course, I didn’t think I’d ever be an editor of the Post-Register when I was a young boy staring out the window of my grade school classes, wondering what I’d be doing when I was the same age as my teachers.
Life has certainly been full of surprises for me. But what hasn’t been a surprise is how much my family and I have enjoyed living in the Quincy Valley.
I knew from past experience that most people in Quincy are warm, kind and giving. (See the stories in this week’s paper about the generosity of the community.) And that holds true to this day.
The five years I have been here have flown by and that is primarily because my experiences here have been so enjoyable.
My time here has confirmed to me that Quincy is indeed my home and I am looking forward to spending many more years living and working here.
While no one knows what the future may hold, I do feel confident on predicting one thing — Quincy will remain a place where opportunities are unlimited.
In related news, the Post-Register has the opportunity to welcome back a dear friend in Raquel (Morgan) Urbina. Raquel worked for the Post-Register for a few years as a graphic designer in the last decade and now she is back on our staff as a graphic designer and will also be doing ad sales.
We are very happy to have her back as part of our team and hope many will have an opportunity to meet her and work with her.
And finally, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for supporting your local newspaper.
