10 years ago: July 13, 2000
Over 1,500 acres of burning brush sent smoke into the air on Saturday. The fire was in the Baird Springs area . Sunday, firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Jones Produce onion packing and storage shed. It was a total loss.

20 years ago: July 19, 1990
The magnificent cathedrals of Europe were the setting of impromptu concerts by Quincy High's Girls Select Choir during their recent tour. One performance in Mondsee, Austria was held at the cathedral in which Maria's wedding was filmed for the movie, "The Sound of Music."
30 years ago: July 17, 1980
Several people announced their candidacy this week. Sid Flanagan announced that he would seek re-election to the State House of Representatives. Judge "Jerry" Merrit also announced a bid for re-election. Jerry Burke announced his candidacy for the Grant County PUD commissioner-at-large.
40 years ago: July 16, 1970
The Chamber of Commerce grounds received a new look this week with grass being planted and new shrubs added in place of the rocks along the edge of the slopes. The work was done by Carl Perleberg, Vern Winfree and Chuck Graves of the Columbia Basin Nursery.
50 years ago: July 14, 1960
The first section of the city's curbs and gutters in a 17 block area were poured and finished this week. Quincy's Deer Creek Construction Company are general contractors for the job.
60 years ago: July 14, 1950
Dedication of the new Vantage post office, located at the new townsite, will be held this afternoon. More than 500 persons will be serviced by the new office.
