Looking back into Quincy's past: July 29

Several top performances were recorded by the Quincy swimmers against Eastmont last week.

Michael Lemon in the boys 9-10 age group placed first in the backstroke with a time of 49.44 seconds. Jay Knodell was the top performer in the breaststroke in the 11-12 category with a time of 45.56, while Brady Manning was the first in the 15-18 group with a time of 43.02.

20 years ago: August 2, 1990>

The story hour at the Quincy Library has been a popular event this summer. A total of 390 youngsters took part in the summer reading program this summer.

30 years ago: July 31, 1980

A seven-passenger van has been obtained for the Quincy Senior Center which will be used to transport residents to and from the center for noon lunches and deliver Meals on Wheels. It will also be used for trips to doctor's appointments and other places. The van is provided by Grant County Seniors. Cleora Williams is the driver.

40 years ago: July 30, 1970

Dr. Jay Magnuson began work at the office of Dr. M. F. Slusher on Wednesday. He was chosen to gradually take over as Dr. Slusher partially retires from dentistry for health reasons.

50 years ago: July 28, 1960

April 27, 1906 - F. V. Higgins is opening a model barber shop with baths connected. Two tubs will be installed and the public will be able to have an up-to-date bath at all times of the day.
