Senior News: July 15

Thanks to everyone who helped at the Red Cross blood drive on Monday. Estimates on participation were 70 donors and 11 Senior Center volunteers. Next year we will work harder on scheduling our volunteers.

We have ordered new carpet for the Senior Center, thanks to a grant from the Paul Lauzier Foundation. We are grateful that they worked with us to make this great change in the dining room, and are looking forward to more changes including the wall treatments in the not so distant future.

You are invited to join the seniors in the Quincy area as we partake in the Pig-Out in McCosh Park in Moses Lake on Saturday, July 24. We are leaving the Senior Center as a caravan at 4:30 and are anticipating a great time trying out food from 10 vendors or more, and music: classical guitar by Steven King and light jazz from Paula Cole. We can use some help from younger folks to make this a good time for all. If you’d like to volunteer carrying chairs and small coolers, we’d be much obliged!

Friends and family of senior citizens be on the alert; look out for your elder loved ones. Hot weather brings its own risks, including heat stroke.

Did you know we lend medical equipment? This week we also have some clean ace bandages that need a home. If you need some, please stop by during our office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Lunch for Rotary at noon and dinner for seniors and community at 6 p.m. at the QUINCY SENIOR CENTER will be baked ham, buttered corn, pasta salad, pickled beets, applesauce, rolls and pistachio pudding.

Pinochle and dominoes start at 6:30 p.m.

Game winners: Monday bridge: Dorothy Hammack #1, Lucy Jacques #2. Tuesday dominoes: no game. Wednesday bridge: Alverna Casey #1, Helen Colby #2. Pinochle: Nick Todd #1, Ben Carrow #2. Thursday dominoes: Shirley Eggers #1, Mark Owens #2.
