The Lady Jacks were tripped up twice in the past week against CWAC South leader East Valley and third-place Wapato.
The game against the Lady Wolves (4-4) last Thursday was a 3-1 loss, while the Lady ‘Devils (7-1) defeated Quincy 9-0. The Wapato game showed the Lady Jacks' improvement this season.
“We’ve improved on our communication just in calling for passes or saying who your're going to pass to,” coach Matthew Kimmel said. “It seems basic, but it’s huge and something you have to have. We’ve also improved on general positioning and understanding method of play.”
The proof:
• Ephrata lost to Wapato 4-1 on Tuesday.
• Ephrata defeated Quincy two weeks ago by a score of 11-0.
• Quincy lost to Wapato 3-1 last Thursday.
The lone Quincy goal this past week came after Wapato was whistled for a hand ball just outside of 30 yards from the goal late in the second half.
Kimmel called upon his strongest leg - Kim Opolony. - and she delivered.
“We got a goal and it was a lovely goal,” he said. “It was in the upper left hand corner of the net. She has the strongest leg and she can bend into the corner where she wants to.
“It was nice to capitalize on a penalty.”
