Bassett qualifies for state golf

Shelby Bassett, a senior, is making a return trip to state golf after placing in the top-15 at the CWAC Girls District Tournament at Black Rock Creek Golf Course in Sunnyside last Wednesday.
After a tumultuous front nine, she survived to post a 105.
The par-5 sixth hole at Black Rock Creek almost ruined Bassett’s chances at earning a trip to MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake. She carded an 11 to give her a 56 on the front nine. She came back with a 49 on the back side to card a 105 for the tournament and finish 10th overall.
The overall winner at the CWAC Girls District Tournament was Ephrata’s Kenedee Peters. The freshman shot a 6-over-par 78 to win by seven strokes.
Bassett, while in the 1As, qualified as a sophomore. It is the second time in her career she qualified for state.
Others: Marlo Omlin 114, Chloe Ovenell 126, Miranda Reynolds dnf.
On the boys side, freshman Trajan Trevino shot the low round for the Jacks at the Yakima Elks Club in Selah. He carded a 100 and finished at 28th among 46 golfers. The winner was Aaron Whalen with a 2-over-par 73.
