Boys win two of four
The Quincy boys wrestling team rebounded from their second league loss of the season to take third at the Dream Duals at East Valley High School in Spokane.
After losing to Othello 36-21 last Thursday, the Jacks fell into third place with a 5-2 record. Othello remained in second, while Toppenish held onto first place. Quincy hosts Ephrata on Thursday with the varsity matches beginning at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Quincy defeated Anacortes and Sedro Wooley, but lost to Port Angeles.
Othello 36, Quincy 21
The host Huskies jumped out to a 23-0 lead through the first five matches, before Quincy pushed back.
Andy Vargas put Quincy on the board with a 7-3 win over Abraham Gonzalez at 160 pounds. Quincy added three more wins at 170, 182 and 195 pounds. Iche Ramirez defeated Edgar Martinez 10-6, Steven Gomez pinned Carson Freeman and Cade Wallace defeated TJ Martinez 13-6. Quincy pulled within eight points at 23-15, but never got any closer.
The Jacks also picked up wins at 285 pounds from Rey Rubio and 113 from Victor Salgado for a final score of 36-21.
Quincy 54, Anacortes 24
Quincy picked up wins from Salgado, Mario Mercado, Raul Barajas, Devin Salcedo, Carlos Guadarrama, Ricardo Estrada, Vargas, Wallace and Rubio.
The pins came from Salgado at 113 pounds; Barajas at 120 pounds; Guadarrama at 138 pounds; and Wallace at 195 pounds.
Port Angeles 57, Quincy 15
The lone wins came from Estrada, Vargas and Ramirez. Vargas and Ramirez both won by pin.
Quincy 39, Sedro Wooley 36
The wins came from Daniel Cruz, Salgado, Barajas, Carlos Guadarrama, Estrada, Trevor Bushman and Vargas.
Barajas came up with the only pin for Quincy.
