Esther E. Gilbert

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Esther E. Gilbert of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away on April 16, 2016, at Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation in Kellogg. She was born June 13, 1924 in Yakima; Esther was the daughter of Melvin and Edith (Houston) Krabill. Esther was raised in Yakima and graduated from Yakima High School.

Esther had various different jobs over the years, including picking hops, fruits and vegetables and working in the warehouse. She also worked at the lunch counter in a pharmacy. Esther attended nurses training in 1971 and worked as a nurse at the hospital in Yakima for several years; she later moved to Quincy, where she worked as a nurse at the Quincy hospital, until the time of her retirement in 1986.
In 1953 Esther married Dick Croff, who she met while working at the fruit and vegetable warehouse. They traveled around Washington according to the harvests. Dick preceded Esther in death. In 1991, Esther met Frank Gilbert in Quincy. They were married in 1992 and moved to Kellogg.
Esther enjoyed crocheting, dancing and playing cards with friends. She was an avid reader and always kept a daily diary. She liked margaritas and Kahlua. Esther loved traveling with her husband Frank; they enjoyed their family very much and they always had a suitcase packed for a family event or adventure. Esther attended Mountain View Congregational Church in Kellogg.
Esther is survived by her beloved husband, Frank Gilbert of Kellogg, Idaho; two daughters, Mary (David) Seatz of Federal Way and Ellen Reagan of Chubbuck, Idaho; grandchildren Owen (Dawn) Seatz, Leanne Mason, Tom (Desi) Reagan and Kramer (Sheila) Seatz; and great-grandchildren Zach (Adrianana), Kaitlyn, Jeremy, Drew, Ryan, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Kasey and Sean. She was preceded in death by her first husband Dick and her son-in-law Tom Reagan.
Cremation will take place and services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Esther’s honor can be made to Shoshone Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 884, Kellogg, ID, 83837.
