Events next week honor our local veterans
Schools throughout the Quincy School District will be honoring local veterans next week in observance of Veterans Day.
The schools are planning Veterans Day assemblies throughout the week. Local veterans, as well as the public, are invited. The assemblies include:
Pioneer Elementary School: 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 12.
Monument Elementary School: 9 a.m. on Nov. 10.
George Elementary School: 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 10.
Mountain View Elementary School: 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 10.
Quincy Junior High School: 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 10.
Quincy High School: 2:25 p.m. on Nov. 10.
Watch for the flags to go up in the Quincy Valley Cemetery. Every Veterans Day, local Boy Scouts help put up the casket flags, which were donated by families.
On Nov. 11, the annual Veterans Day Parade in Ephrata, hosted by the American Legion and Auxiliary of Art Semro Post 28, will mark its 18th year.
Participants will gather at the Grant County Courthouse at 10:30 a.m. The parade starts at 10:45 a.m., marching south on C Street to 2nd Avenue Southwest, turning east to Basin and then north to the War Memorial in front of the ERC Building at corner of Basin and 1st SW. At 11 a.m., the Honor Guard will fire a salute, coinciding with signing of the armistice on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour.
The parade will then proceed north on Basin Street to the Grant County Courthouse, where a second salute will be fired in front of the Vietnam and POW Memorial. Anyone wishing to be in the parade can contact Mike or Jane Montaney at 754-4889.
