Lady Jacks push Huskies in loss
The Quincy girls battled Othello basket for basket during the first half of Saturday’s Central Washington Athletic Conference game, but turnovers eventually doomed the Lady Jacks to a 51-41 loss.
The teams were tied 16-16 at halftime, but a big offensive show by Othello in the third quarter gave the visitors a lead they never relinquished. The Lady Huskies outscored Quincy 21-8 in the decisive third period.
“We’re not winning, and that’s hard, but we’re getting better,” said Quincy coach Cory Medina. “We just need some calls to go our way. They did everything I asked tonight. Liz (Nielson) fouling out hurt us.”
The Quincy senior forward led the team with eight points even though she had to sit some of the final quarter after fouling out.
After an Othello turnover with 2:30 left in the game, Alysha Donovan of Quincy was fouled and made both free throws to cut Othello’s lead to 41-38 with 2:14 to play. However, the Lady Huskies made seven of nine free throws in the last 2:00 to ice the game.
Medina said there was lots to like despite the loss, which dropped the Lady Jacks to 0-11 in conference play and 1-12 overall.
Erica Camacho scored six points and snared seven rebounds, five of them on the offensive boards. All of her points came after offensive rebounds.
Quincy’s Rachel Faw grabbed nine rebounds, Kaitlin Ramsey had seven and Nielson collected six.
The team will play at East Valley this Friday before Grandview visits Quincy on Saturday. Both games begin at 5:45 p.m.
