Looking Back: Quincy Lions step toward pool
The Quincy Lions moved a step closer toward realization of their community swimming pool Monday evening as they were assured of a southeast Quincy site.
Asking permission to locate the pool in the Crescent addition park were Dean Hackett and Howard Randolph. They said that some work will be done this fall on the project if sufficient help can be had.
Under plans outlined to the council, the pool will receive its water supply from the adjacent West canal. Plans for the pool have been passed by county and state health officials.
The council approved the pool site for the Lions and cancelled all previous improvement plans that might have been issued for the area.
In other news, about a thousand spectators saw the first home game in the new Quincy Jaycee Stadium. Dedication ceremonies of the $10,000 stadium will be held during half-time of the Quincy-Grand Coulee game.
Quincy directors had the field officially named “The Jaycee Stadium” in recognition of the hours and hours of time spent and the more than $7000 the Quincy Jaycees have invested in the project. They still have about $4000 yet to pay on the project. They are asking everyone to help.
