Melvin A. Alliss

Melvin A. Alliss passed away on Feb. 2, 2015, in Spokane.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1937, in Harligen, Texas, to his parents Weston and Anna Alliss. They had a farm in La Feria, Texas, where he lived until the family moved in 1948 to Dallas, Ore., where he continued school. He was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. The family moved in 1953 to Quincy. Melvin continued his schooling there and in 1960 joined the U.S. Army National Guard, where he served both active and reserve duty for five years.

He started his career with Boilermaker’s International in 1966 in Spokane.  He married Kay Pfaffle in 1971 in Spokane, and they had a daughter, Dawnna Ann Alliss, in 1972.

Melvin retired after 30 years and lived in the Spokane Valley, where he enjoyed his hobby of fixing up old cars.

He is survived by his daughter, U.S. Air Force Major Dawnna Alliss of Park City, Utah; his sister, Shirley and Jim Wurl of Quincy; a niece, Carrie and Doug Shirk of Wenatchee; two nephews, Monty and Brenda Wurl of Ephrata and Randy and Kim Wurl of Buckley; and six cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life service was held on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Scharbach’s Columbia Funeral Chapel in Quincy, with a concluding service with military honors at the Quincy Valley Cemetery.
