Pioneer Elementary has new principal
Ellen Hopkins has been hired as the new principal at Pioneer Elementary School, culminating a search that lasted almost two months.
Hopkins, from the Spokane area, has worked as coordinator of assessments and as a professional development specialist with the East Valley School District. Most recently, she worked as coordinator of transforming profession learning, working with and developing instructional coaches throughout the state, according to an email from current Pioneer principal Nik Bergman to his staff.
“She comes to Pioneer highly recommended and a background that will support the outstanding work already being done here at Pioneer,” wrote Bergman, the incoming assistant superintendent at the Quincy School District.
Hopkins’ hire places a principal at all but one elementary school in the district. The district hired Colleen Frerks to take over as principal at Mountain View Elementary School. Frerks was the principal at the district’s elementary school in George; that spot remains open.
The district also must hire someone to take over as athletic director at Quincy High School, following the retirement of longtime AD Bill Alexander. The new AD will also be the school’s assistant principal.
