Postseason starts Friday
The postseason begins this weekend as the girls head to Richland and the boys travel to Wapato for the first round of districts on Friday.
The top-6 girls and top-6 boys advance to regionals. However, only the top-5 boys are guaranteed a spot. The sixth seed has to defat the Great Northern League’s number three-seed to etner tournament.
The Lady Jacks are sending a trio of wrestlers to the District Wrestling Championships at Richland High School on Friday and Connell High School on Saturday.
Junior Kateri Rowell (15-9) is seeded second out of 22 wrestlers at 110 pounds. She has a 15-9 overall record and will have a first-round bye. She will face the winner of the Lyndie Castro (3-3) and Ahide Duran (1-4) match, both of Wapato, in the second round.
Senior Zahlee Stephens (15-9) is seeded fourth out of 15 wrestlers at 120 pounds. She will face 13th seeded Samantha Zambrano of Sunnyside in the second round.
Junior Dezarae Westra (9-16) will open with Sunnyside’s Sophia Torres (11-12).
Rey Rubio (9-0, 19-7) was the CWAC’s top-seed at 285 pounds and the only number-one seed in Quincy’s lineup. He will be joined by several number-two seeds.
The second seeds went to 152-pound Andy Vargas (9-0, 22-4), 160-pound Iche Ramirez (7-2, 21-7), 170-pound Steven Gomez (7-2, 15-9) and 182-pound Cade Wallace (8-1, 12-6).
The Jacks also had a a couple third seeds in 113-pound Victor Sagado (8-1, 17-8) and 132-pound Jesus Guzman 4-2, 7-4), while 220-pound Samuel Rodriguez (5-2, 7-7 was given a number four seed.
Quincy will bring a total of 26 boys and three girls to the district tournaments.
