Quincy girls shine in Kennewick mat meet
Quincy wrestlers Kateri Rowell and Victoria Rubio both won three matches without a defeat at the Bob Mars Invitational tournament Saturday at Kennewick High School.
Rowell competed in the 115-pound category while Rubio wrestled in the 170-pound class.
Teammates Cynthia Diaz and Gaby Arroyo each notched a pair of victories against one loss, and Areli Giron won a single match with two losses.
The Lady Jacks put up an impressive 11-4 record during the day, although official team scores weren’t compiled.
“The girls were very impressive,” said coach William Clifton. “I was quite happy with the way they conducted themselves on the mat.”
The team takes part in the Warden Invitational meet Saturday, which should provide more answers about where the Lady Jacks stand at this point in the season. Quincy, Eastmont, Othello, Prosser and Toppenish will join the host team for the day-long event.
“That will be a more realistic indicator of where we’re at,” Clifton said. “I’m very cautiously optimistic. It’s early in the season and we have a long way to go.”
The Lady Jacks will take on Ellensburg in a dual at the QHS gym Tuesday at 6 p.m.
After a series of meets on the road, the team’s next home meet will be Jan. 7 against Pasco.
