Wapato upsets Jacks
It seemed the Jacks suffered from as case of post-upset let-down last Friday night in Wapato. The Wolves defeated Quincy 12-7. Last week Quincy (4-4, 4-5) upset perennial power Othello 34-6, but was tripped up by Wapato on a slick and muddy field this past week.
The Wolves were led by quarterback Romeo Cohens, who threw a pair of touchdown passes. He was far from perfect as the Quincy defense limited him to 11-of-25 for 174 yards and three interceptions.
Quincy was the first to score off a 40-yard run by quarterback John Lindquist in the first quarter. The senior rushed for 103 yards on 13 carries, while Andy Vargas and Steven Gomez combined to run for 82 yards.
Wapato’s first score came in the second quarter off a 16-yard pass from Cohen to Christian Vela. A failed two-point conversion left Quincy with a 7-6 lead heading into halftime. Wapato capped the third quarter with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Cohens to Hunter Jacobs. Another failed two-conversion left Wapato with a 12-7 lead.
Quincy had one good second-half drive, where Lindquist scrambled for 49 yards to the Wapato 15. They moved the ball inside the five-yard line and had a first and goal, but a penalty pushed them backward. Wapato eventually stuffed the Jacks on the four-yard line and picked up their first CWAC win in two years.
