Water at 560 feet at Wanapum Reservoir
The Wanapum Reservoir on Monday was restored to its intermediate levels, a week after Grant PUD started raising the pool behind Wanapum Dam.
Grant PUD on Nov. 25 began raising the water level gradually until it was raised about 17 feet. Prior to Nov. 25, the reservoir was at about 541 to 545 feet, said Chuck Allen, spokesman for Grant PUD.
“We have filled the reservoir up to the range — 558 to 562 feet — that we plan to operate it in until the start of the 2015 recreation season,” Allen said.
The PUD will announce in the next week or so if there will be areas of the shoreline that will reopen to the public, Allen said. About a third of the required repairs to the dam are completed at this time, he added.
A crack was discovered on the spillway at the dam about 10 months ago. The reservoir was lowered at that time to take pressure off of the dam.
The PUD has said it expects the reservoir to be at full pool by early May.
