All-league honorees announced in three winter sports

Quincy athletes received plaudits from the Central Washington Athletic Conference at the end of the winter sports season.
Three male wrestlers earned second-team all-league honors: Junior Ruben Vargas, who placed at state, senior Salvador Chavarin, who also placed at state, and senior Nate Ramirez, who qualified for state.
Junior Jose Avila, who also qualified for state, earned an honorable mention nod.
Wrestler of the Year honors went to Haiden Drury, a junior from Toppenish who won the state title at 126 lbs.
Coach of the Year honors went to Toppenish’s John Cerna, whose team won the state title, as well.
In girls basketball, the Jacks won the league’s sportsmanship award. Player of the Year honors went to Janealle Sutterlict of Wapato.
Coach of the Year honors went to Rick Hartman of Selah, whose team finished the season with a 17-1 record in league and 19-5 overall.
In boys basketball, the Jacks won the league’s sportsmanship award.
Player of the Year honors went to Selah’s Noah Pepper.
Frankie Medina of Grandview won the Coach of the Year award, after his Greyhounds finished with a 9-9 league record and 10-11 overall, after winning just two games in the 2017-18 campaign.
All-CWAC honors for girls wrestling had not been finalized by press time and will be posted to our website, www.qvpr.com.
