Arts group honors local heroes

Columbia Basin Allied Arts will present the Yakima Symphony Orchestra at Big Bend Community College’s Wallenstien Theater at 7 p.m., Feb. 1. The YSO will perform its “National Heroes” production from its Yakima Valley Classical Series, which includes music from Antonín Dvořák, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Jean Sibelius – three composers considered national heroes in their homelands.
The show is the third of four in Columbia Basin Allied Arts’ 41st Premiere Season.
The orchestra will fill the stage with more than 60 pieces, including conductor Lawrence Golan and cello soloist John Michel.
In the spirit of the event, Columbia Basin Allied Arts said it is honoring local heroes by offering 25 percent off tickets (regularly priced $15 to $30) to first responders, social workers, teachers, farmers, and whoever else one might consider a local hero. Additionally, send the names of your local heroes to cbaa@bigbend.edu and they will be honored at the event. Use code HEROES25 at checkout for the discount.
