Baseball team sweeps Wapato to reach top of division
Behind some stout pitching and timely hitting, the Quincy Jacks baseball team swept the visiting Wapato Wolves on April 20, with identical 10-0 scores in Game 1 and Game 2.
The sweep put Quincy atop Division 2 of the CWAC.
The top three teams -n Division 2 advance to the playoffs. Quincy sits alone in first place with a 7-4 record in league, and 8-8 overall.
In Game 1, Mike Spence threw five innings of two-hit ball, giving up no earned runs and striking out nine.
In game 2, Nick Gonzalez went six innings, giving up two hits, no earned runs and striking out 14.
Ruben Vargas went 5-of-6 on the day with three singles, a double and a triple.
Connor Donovan went 4-of-6 on the day with four singles, and Justin Thompson went 3-of-5 on the day with three singles and two walks.
The two victories over Wapato gave Quincy a 5-1 record over the last six games, with the only loss coming on the road against Othello, 5-0, on April 16.
Next up for the Jacks was a home game against East Valley-Yakima on April 23. Results weren’t available prior to press time.
Then, the Jacks host Ellensburg on April 27 at 11 a.m. That will not be Senior Day, as the team celebrated its 12th-graders on April 20.
