Families gather downtown for tree lighting fun

Elvis was back with a microphone, belting out some of his hit songs a cappella, to start off the Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting held Dec. 3 at Rotary Park in Quincy.

The Quincy Junior High School Choir sings Christmas songs Monday evening for about 100 people gathered for the Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 3.

Santa Claus arrived earlier in the evening than last year, arriving again in a firetruck with its siren blaring and lights flashing. Then families lined up a dozen deep for a chance for children to meet Santa.
Meanwhile, they munched on holiday treats provided by CliftonLarsonAllen and listened to familiar Christmas music provided by the Quincy Junior High School Choir followed by the Quincy Community Choir.
The annual community get-together brought people of all ages out, most of them bundled up, ready for cold. But snow was absent, and the temperature hovered above freezing – even the Rotary fountain was still running.
