Good timing for a good deed: Column
By Dave Burgess
It is almost Christmas, and preparations for the holidays are of course at the front of most people’s minds.
It is also a time of year when many children in our community – growing as children do, wearing out clothing as children do, and noticing the falling temperatures (though there hasn’t been much snow yet) – need new shoes.
The need is there – seen, for instance, in the pages of the Santa Letters section of the Post-Register today. Several children, in writing their notes to Santa Claus, wish for new shoes. (We are glad to present the Santa Letters pages again this year and thank the schools’ personnel and local business people who supported this fun project.)
Thankfully, there are caring people in Quincy Valley who have given some of their time during this busy, happy season, to see to it that many of the local children who need shoes get them. Read about their shoe drive, dubbed Warmin’ the Soles, in the pages of this issue of the Post-Register.
It’s great timing for a heart-warming good deed, helping make Quincy Valley’s Christmas merry.
