Helen Violet (Thompson) Herring

Helen Violet (Thompson) Herring, 89, of Quincy passed away on Jan. 21, 2015.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1925, in Roff, Okla., to Herbert Francis and Rosa Belle (Whisenhunt) Thompson. On Aug. 15, 1944, she married Walter Lee Herring in Roswell, N.M. In 1966, Helen and her family moved to Washington. For many years, Helen was a homemaker and raised six children. After moving to Quincy, she worked 20 years at Lamb-Weston.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Sandra (Herring) Bradley of Quincy; two brothers; three sisters and a grandchild.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Gimlin and Linda Herring (Jack Heerman) both of Curlew; three sons, Joseph Herring of Quincy, Dan (Robin) Herring of Moses Lake and Lee (Sheila) Herring of Stratford; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was an avid gardener and had many beautiful flowers surrounding her home in Quincy. She was greatly loved by her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

Arrangements are by Scharbach’s Columbia Funeral Chapel in Quincy. Service details are pending.
