Jacks to host jamboree
The Jackrabbits are going to have a new look this season with a small contingent of returning varsity players back in the green and gold uniforms.
Last week the team was the smallest in coach Stephen Wallace’s tenure with less than 50 players. The number has since risen to around 70. But they still only have four returning starters.
They will have inside linebacker Alberto Tafoya, outside linebacker Iche Ramirez, outside linebacker Jorge Ruiz and nose tackle Rey Rubio on the defensive side and only Tafoya on the offensive side.
“We’re young,” said Wallace.
The Jacks are going to move to a platoon system this season. The idea is to have a starting 11 for defense and a starting 11 for offense. There will be a couple of two-way players, but the idea is to keep both sides of the ball seperate.
The Jacks are hosting a 3-team jamboree on Friday with Chelan and Royal. The event begins at 6 p.m. All three teams will have an opportunity to run 10 plays on offense and 10 plays on defense against each school.
The Quincy football team decided to use the jamboree as a fundraiser for the fire victims in Chelan. Donations will be accepted at the gate and all proceeds will be donated to those families who lost their homes and belongings in the fires.
