Letter to the editor: The 51st state
The 51st state
Recently there has been growing talk about Washington splitting into two states. Many say “Oh, they’ve talked about that before, nothing ever comes of it. It will never happen.”
Actually, this is a movement that has been talked about since 1907. For over 100 years, we in Eastern Washington have felt the need to separate ourselves from “The West Side.” For more reasons than most of us can count, our opinions and politics do not mesh. It’s more than east and west. It’s becoming more like fire and water. The politics of the greater Seattle area are affecting our children, our food production, and the way we heat our homes. The blatant disregard for our vote was on full display this last year. It was and continues to be obvious that our opinions do not matter. This legislative session saw the introduction of the necessary House bills to begin the process of dividing our state right down the line of the Cascade Range, thus creating the state of Liberty.
The first informational meeting for the public is March 23 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Lake City Foursquare Church 333 N. Central Drive, Moses Lake. Come down, learn some more about Liberty state. Join the movement; libertystate.org.
