Letter to the editor: Getting past the whopper tellers

Double standard? If these were conservatives, the stories would’ve been endlessly reported until they were destroyed … .
A 2010 Huffington Post article (you can find on huffingtonpost.com) states that Senator Richard Blumenthal “told the Times he had misspoken at the 2008 event in Norfolk in which he said he served in Vietnam.” Does anyone reading this seriously believe you could clearly and honestly “misspeak” on whether or not you served in a combat zone? I don’t know any such person.
A 2010 story on cbsnews.com stated the New York Times printed a story purporting the newspaper had an incontrovertible example of (Richard) Blumenthal making reference to “the days that I served in Vietnam” and noted it was a clearly incorrect statement. The report stated Blumenthal was given at least five deferments that kept him out of the war and went on to state that in 2003, in comments about American troops serving overseas, he also made reference to what he saw “when we returned.” Does anyone believe you could, honestly, accidentally claim you’d returned from duty overseas when you hadn’t done duty overseas?
You can find many stories on the net about a former female presidential candidate who said in a speech at George Washington University in March 2008 that she landed “under sniper fire” during a 1996 trip to Bosnia. She was quoted as having said “There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.” The Washington Post debunked this claim days after it was made and a mainstream news program, to their credit, presented old news footage that showed when the future candidate landed at Tuzla Air Base she met an 8-year-old Muslim girl who read her a poem, and the video of the landing showed the future candidate and her daughter, calmly walking away from the plane and then greeting people on the tarmac. Witnesses and video tape proved they did not “land under sniper fire.” Does “telling whoppers” matter?
If you want to get past the controlled, contrived, manipulated and censored news, here are a couple of internet sites you might find that cut to the chase: real.video and counterthink.com. You’ll enjoy the gift of clarity and the ring of truth.
