Looking Back, Jan. 26, 1961: Quincy girl receives letter from president
Whether John F. Kennedy will be a great president, or just an ordinary one, the editors of the Quincy Post-Register will leave history. But one Quincy girl will always treasure a letter she wrote congratulating him on his election.
Elaine Nerpel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Nerpel received a letter dated January 4, written on a United States senate letterhead. It reads:
Dear Elaine: I want to thank you for the very friendly message you sent to me after my election to the presidency.
I am most heartened by the many expressions of good will which I have received. I am sure that they reflect a broad unity of purpose in our nation. I hope that my record during the next four years will sustain your generous confidence.
With every good wish, I am
John F. Kennedy
