Looking Back, Nov. 10, 1966: PTA to commemorate American Education Week
The PTA meeting will be on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. in the Mountain View School. To commemorate Education Week, Nov. 6-12, the program will look at What’s New in the Quincy Schools with an emphasis on developments in the high school, including the Work Experience program, which is being carried on in cooperation with Quincy businesses. The Big Bend Community College program for high school students in the fields of industrial mechanics and electronics; the new look in driver training; the developmental reading program which emphasizes basic reading skill and a look at the number and variety of financial helps which are available for students after high school graduation, including vocational training financing as well as assistance for those planning to go to college.
The second part of the program will be devoted to exploring the use which the Quincy schools have made of the money they received from the federal government under the Elementary and Secondary Education act of 1965.
A number of teachers have been asked to present various parts of the program, which plans to have some colored slides of the local situation to illustrate some sections of it.
