Looking Back, Oct. 24, 1963: Homecoming celebration begins Thursday
Beginning Thursday evening the annual Homecoming celebration will start with a lively serpentine rally and bonfire in anticipation of the Homecoming Football Game with Eastmont Friday.
Children of Quincy schools who will take part in the rally are to form at the high school at 7 p.m. From there, they will transverse the Quincy business district, stopping at the intersection of D Street and Central Avenue for a pep rally and a general run of fun. From there they will journey back to the southeast corner of the football field where they will have a gigantic bonfire.
Friday afternoon there will be an assembly of Homecoming students where the royalty will be named and the class of 1954 honored. A selection of a Homecoming Queen and King, two princes and princesses will be announced at the halftime of the football game.
On Saturday, a reunion of class members of 1954 will be held at the Turf Café. That evening, the Homecoming dance is to be held in the high school cafetorium. Theme for the dance is “Deep Purple.”
