Michael “Mick” Thayer

Michael John Thayer, or Mick as he was called by those who knew him, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Central Washington Hospital at the age of 63. Michael was born on May 19, 1952, in Toppenish to Jack and Dorothy Thayer.

Mick was a graduate of Quincy High School as well Washington State University, receiving his degree in agronomy. He loved farming and lived much his life working in the Columbia Basin. He owned and operated his own farm, in partnership with his brother Jim, for much of his life. At other times he worked for National Frozen Foods, Simplot and Tom Downs Farms, among other employers. Mick was a Cougar football fan and could be found listening to a game while operating equipment. When not working, Mick enjoyed spending time with his family in activities such as boating, attending football games, watching movies and celebrating birthdays and holidays.

Michael is survived by his wife, Janet Thayer, and his four children, Drew Thayer, Evan Thayer, Mark Thayer and Lindsay Thayer. His brothers are Robert (Bob) and James (Jim) Thayer.

A celebration of life service was held on March 19, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Quincy.
