Poetry competition at Quincy High next week
The public is invited to attend a free poetry reading on Wednesday in the Performing Arts Center at Quincy High School.
Student readings will begin at 7 p.m.
Contestants will be judged on ease of delivery, confidence and other factors, said English teacher Kathy Hardiman. The winner will go on to a regional competition.
Nine Quincy students will take part in the nationwide Poetry Out Loud competition. The goal is to encourage high school students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance and competition, according to a news release.
The contest is a partnership between the Washington State Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation.
