Staff report
Each year the Quincy Valley Lions Club sponsors an international peace poster contest for students ages 11 to 13 years old.
“This age group is picked, because we believe peace is dependent on our youth,” said Marilyn Cordova of the Quincy Valley Lions Club.
The club chose one winner from each school it sponsors.
This year’s winners are Atalee Gregg, an eighth-grader at Quincy Valley School, and Claudia Lopez, a seventh-grader at Quincy Junior High.
Gregg is the daughter of Elijah and Whitney Gregg. Lopez is the daughter of Yesika Lopez and Agustin Jimenez.
This year’s theme of the contest was “Share Peace.” The winning posters now will be judged at the district level. District level winners move onto the Multiple District Level and then the International Level.
Only one winner is sent on at each level.
At the International Level, a Grand Prize winner will be selected and 23 Merit Award winners.
The Grand Prize winner receives a trip to an award ceremony and a cash award of $5,000. The 23 Merit Award winners each will receive a cash award of $500 and a certificate of achievement.
There are over 400,000 poster entries from around the world each year, Cordova said.
