Quincy FFA competes in apple judging
Quincy FFA members traveled to Yakima for the 2018 Washington State FFA Apple Career Development Event held at the Washington State Horticultural Association annual meeting. This is the second year that Quincy has competed in the Apple CDE.
Members compete in eight practicum areas: Pesticide Applicators Test, Red and Golden Apple Grading, Entomology Identification, Blemish Identification, Variety Identification, Pressure Testing, Fruit Maturity and Tray Judging.
The team earned a seventh-place plaque in the 23-team field, marking the Quincy FAA’s second state award in as many trips. Team members were Taran Brown, Cooper Raap, Gavin Sahli, Jane Kennedy and Andrew Townsend.
This wraps up the 2018 competitive year for the Quincy FFA. Coming back from the holiday break, the students will begin preparation for spring CDEs and award applications.
In the spring, members compete in Creed Speaking, Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Conduct of Chapter Meetings, Parliamentary Procedure, Employability Skills, First Year Member, Agriculture Communications, Agriculture Issues Forum, Agronomy, Agriculture Sales, Environmental Natural Resources, Meats Evaluation, Horse Evaluation, and Livestock Evaluation.
