Quincy Jacks come back to beat Selah, 2-1
SELAH – The Quincy Jacks overcame an early first-half deficit in the second half and took home a 2-1 victory over the Vikings in the last game of the Jacks’ regular season.
Selah, out of playoff contention with a 2-13 overall record, struck first, Quincy head coach Arturo Guerrero said in an interview, but the Jacks (10-3 overall, 7-2 in league) came out of the break with a different attitude and it paid off.
“We made some adjustments, and played with intensity and courage,” Guerrero said of the Jacks’ second-half action. “The boys really wanted to win.”
Francisco “Paco” Alejandrez tied it up for Quincy and Kevin Rios had the game-winner.
Next up for the green-and-gold are the Othello Huskies in the first round of playoffs. The Jacks host the canines from Adams County at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The game will be the rubber-match for both teams. Othello beat the host Quincy 2-1 in March, and the Jacks returned the favor last week, winning on the road 1-0.
“It’s going to be a good game,” Guerrero said. “We like our chances and we have a good team. We think we may go deep this year, but we gotta take it one game at a time.”
