Quincy man dies of injuries in collision

An 18-year-old Quincy man died after he was struck by a semi truck on Highway 281 on Sept. 13.
Capt. Ryan Green of the Quincy Police Department said Edward Garcia was walking along the side of the road when he looked to the rear, saw the semi truck driving toward him and then walked into the road.
According to Quincy police, Garcia intentionally entered the roadway at 4:18 p.m. in the area of the 1700 block of Central Avenue South, causing the collision.
First responders attempted life-saving measures. Garcia was taken to Quincy Valley Medical Center and later died while being flown to a hospital in Spokane, Quincy police stated.
The collision occurred in a section of road where the speed limit transitions from 60 mph to 35 mph, Green said.
The truck driver was not injured. The truck sustained minor damage.
Highway 281 was closed in both directions temporarily during the investigation, between the West Canal and Road 9 NW.
