Quincy man injured in two-vehicle collision
A 59-year-old Quincy man was injured Friday, May 11, in a two-vehicle collision near George, according to Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeff Lankaar was a passenger in a 2011 GMC Sierra driven by Riley Sundberg, 30, of Quincy. They were traveling north on Adams Road North when their vehicle rear-ended a dry fertilizer trailer being towed by a Peterbilt tractor driven by Junior Guerrero, 29, of Quincy, GCSO stated on May 14. The Peterbilt and trailer had slowed for a paint striping truck working on the roadway.
Lankaar was critically injured and was extricated by firefighters from Grant County Fire District No. 3. He was flown to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee and was in stable condition with a broken right leg and hip, according to GCSO.
GCSO said alcohol and drugs did not contribute to the collision, but driver inattention did: Sundberg said he became distracted while searching for his sunglasses and looked up to see the trailer was much closer than he had thought.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Motor Traffic Unit is investigating the collision. All the occupants were wearing their seat belts, GCSO stated.
