Registration opens for annual chess tournament

It’s time to sign up for the Ninth Annual Waypoint Foundation Scholastic Chess Tournament, to be held on Feb. 7 in Ephrata.

The popular tournament is open to students in kindergarten through high school in the Quincy, Ephrata, Soap Lake and Moses Lake school districts. Home-schooled students and students attending private schools who live within these districts also are invited to attend.

Last year’s winner was Titus Berndt of Quincy.

The tournament is free; however, participation is limited to the first 100 registrations. Last year, the tournament had more than 100 pre-registrations, said Tony Pugh of Waypoint Wealth Management in Ephrata.

The registration deadline is at noon on Feb. 6. Students must register as individuals; this is not a team tournament. The tournament is at Parkway School, 1011 Parkway Blvd.
