Rock and Ride 2015

The annual Rock and Ride Bike Tour Through George had 59 riders which was up by more than eight percent over last year.

Race coordinator Todd Wurl said the event had seven riders go 10 miles, 23 pedal 30 miles, 11 went 70 miles and an impressive 18 riders tackled the 100 mile course.  He said riders started as early as 5:15 a.m. with the final rider finished the course at 3 p.m.

“I was happy with the number,” he said.

Despite some gravel on the road way and a rock slide halfway down Old Vantage Highway, the ride was a success.   A few riders were using the bike tour as a warm up to the Seattle-to-Portland ride, which is July 11.

“There was a little gravel for a mile or two, but we had good (feedback),” Wurl said.  “The weather was perfect.”

Wurl said seniors Jay Gates and Beatrice Avalos mapped out part of the course, found volunteers and were on the course from 4:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. last Saturday.
