Scouting Report: East Valley vs. Lady Jacks

Who: Quincy High School girls basketball team.

Next opponent: East Valley of Yakima at Quincy, 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18.

East Valley’s record: 4-1 overall, 3-0 in conference. The team has a four-game winning streak after losing the season’s first game to Sunnyside, 37-31. Since then they’ve beaten Chelan, 47-41; Prosser, 43-29; Othello, 59-23; and Grandview, 49-38.

What East Valley coach Robi Raab says: “We’re starting to play better. The schedule is set up for us to do well early. I have a lot of respect for (Quincy coach) Cory (Medina) and what he’s trying to build up there. We have a tough league. It just takes time.”

A look at East Valley: “We play 10 kids consistently,” Raab said. “We like to press and we pride ourselves on defense. Our offense is coming along slowly, but it’s getting there.” He said Kaileigh Dietrich-Denton, a 6-foot post player, is off to a good start. So is Taylor Manrique, a 5-foot-8 senior guard. “She’s our senior captain and one of our leading scorers,” Raab said. “We’re fairly young. We have two seniors and three juniors, and the rest are sophomores.”
