Tennis holds its own in split against tough Othello team
Belying the tough, snowy preseason, and playing hard against a vaunted opponent, the Quincy High School tennis team earned a split at home against the Othello Huskies.
The Huskies from Adams County landed in Quincy on March 26, and went home having defeated the Quincy girls 3-2 and having lost by the same score to the boys.
Top Quincy singles player Louis Merred defeated Angel Ramirez 6-1, 6-0, while Ephrem Roseburg won by forfeit. The doubles tandem of Izaac Solano and Juan Silvas defeated Othello’s David Luna and David Rosas, 6-0, 6-1.
The Quincy duo of Taggart Hodges and Joahan Fregoso lost to Diego Ruiz and Matthew Perez, 3-6, 3-6, and the duo of Sam Ronish and Drew Rigby lost to the duo of Manuel Vasquez and Hector Martinez, 1-6, 5-7.
Among girls, Samahara Aguilar of Quincy defeated Isabella Aguayo, 7-3, 7-6 (7-3), and the duo of Vanessa Morga and Ashli Arellano defeated Othello’s tandem of Yaritza Maravilla and Zuzeth Jimenez, 6-4, 6-2.
Quincy’s Hannah Bensch lost to Savanna Maltos, 0-6, 1-6, and the duo of Grace Bews and Vivian Geesey lost to Othello’s Carolina Iribe and Lillie Wesley, 1-6, 1-6.
Lastly, Dani Ronish and Hailey McKee lost to Othello’s Arissa Diaz and Berenice Hernandez, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 0-6.
Next up for the Quincy team is hosting East Valley-Yakima on April 8, starting at 4 p.m.
