Tennis team splits series at home against Selah Vikings
The Quincy High School tennis team won some and lost some against the visiting Selah Vikings on April 20.
The boys bested the always stout Selah squad 3-2, while the girls played some tough matches but ultimately lost all five points of the series.
Among boys, Louis Merred, fresh off his venture into the wilderness of playing doubles against Cashmere, bested Selah’s Logan DeVon in singles, 6-1, 6-2, while fellow singles player Efrem Roseburg defeated Selah’s Aidan Franklin 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles, the duo of Joahan Fregoso and Taggart Hodges defeated Selah’s Colten Harris and Kyle Berremon, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 in a strong comeback.
Selah’s two points also came in doubles, with Malachi Young and Quentin Guerrero beating Quincy’s Izaac Solano and Juan Silvas 5-7, 2-6, and Dustin Bishop and Logan Godfrey defeating Tucker Ronish and Sam Ronish, 1-6, 6-3, 3-6.
The girls had a tougher go of it against the Vikings, with Hannah Bensch losing to standout Mary-Frances Bellew, 1-6, 0-6, Samahara Aguilar losing to Ashlynn Hall, 0-6, 0-6, and the duo of Dani Ronish and Hailey McKee losing to Hannah Walter and Clara Beth Hamill, 2-6, 6-7 (5-7).
In the second doubles, Paige Lubach and Daisy Ramirez lost to Tanna Bond and Maya Hal, 0-6, 3-6, and in the third doubles, Vanessa Morga and Ashli Arellano lost to Sydnie Gates and Evani Valencia, 1-6, 3-6.
