Tennis team thumps East Valley-Yakima
The Quincy High School tennis team came back from spring break in fine form, throttling the Red Devils from East Valley-Yakima on April 8.
Both the boys and the girls teams took series against the Red Devils, with the win placing the boys team atop the standings of the CWAC with a 3-0 record in league. The win was the first league victory of the season for the girls, who now own a 1-2 record in league, 3-4 overall.
The standings show the girls in eighth place, but there is a four-way tie for fourth place, with four squads holding a 1-1 record in league.
Against East Valley, the girls throttled the visiting Red Devil squad, winning the series 5-0, with each game going the Lady Jacks’ way in two sets.
Quincy’s Hannah Bensch defeated Morgan Brown 6-1, 6-2; and Samahara Aguilar defeated Mya Brown 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, the duo of Dani Ronish and Hailey McKee defeated the Yakima duo of Jia Smith and Jasmine Shipley, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.
The duo of Paige Lubach and Daisy Ramirez defeated East Valley’s Jasjot Gill and Baylee Rogers, 6-2, 6-1.
The duo of Esme Aguilar and Jocelyn Tafolla beat Yakima’s Ashlynne Pearson and Alexa Miller, 6-4, 6-1.
Among boys, Louis Merred defeated East Valley’s Jorge Medina, 6-3, 6-2.
Efrem Roseburg defeated Robby Kershew of East Valley, 6-0, 6-0.
The Quincy duo of Sam Ronish and Tucker Ronish beat Nick Pearson and Kaleb Thorson, 6-3, 6-1.
East Valley’s Jacob Walser and Michael Mesler defeated the Quincy duo of Tim Bensch and Wyatt Van Der Merwe, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
The Red Devils’ Jimmy Schenslight and Jaren Hooper defeated Quincy’s Juan Silvas and Jose Cruz, 6-4, 6-1.
Next up for the Quincy fuzz-peelers was a road contest at Prosser on April 9. Results weren’t available prior to press time.
The team then plays Chelan at home on April 11 at 4 p.m. and visits Grandview on April 16 at 4 p.m.
